my 2012 Oscars best dressed list

i didn't get to watch the Oscars because i slept at almost 8am :(
but anyway, it's easy to just google the winners and especially the gowns.

Mila Jovovich's first Academy Award and she looks amazing!
Mila Jovovich
Michelle Williams is always nicely dressed.
Michelle Williams in Louis Vuitton
But her 2006 Vera Wang gown is still my favorite.

I also love Rooney Mara's outfits. She's like the edgy version of Audrey Hepburn.

Rooney Mara in Givenchy
i added Octavia Spencer. i'll definitely wear this gown by Tadashi Shoji

Of course Angelina Jolie looks perfect in her black Versace gown
but it's a safe choice for her. I was hoping she would show up in something surprising.

I like her outfit in the Golden Globe more.

next lifetime, i want to be Audrey Hepburn.
it wouldn't hurt to be Angelina Jolie too.

PS: i want an Elie Saab or Givenchy gown to wear nowhere :)

i'm already in europe. it's 5AM and i'm still awake. it's been like this since the year started because i've been writing nonstop.

now i have poker and Polyvore to keep me company in the wee hours of the morning.

makes me think of Christmas...

but i prefer this cover by Jamie Cullum

walkout queen

am i just getting old? it's not too easy to make me happy nowadays.

recently, i watched Before Sunset again and it lost its magic to me. for some reason, i find them fake. i can see them acting, especially julie delpy. though i still love the ending when she sang.

i haven't liked all the recent movies i watched in theaters. this week i watched Hugo then earlier, Unofficially Yours. before them, i saw Tintin, The Road, Shake Rattle & Roll (the latest one). ugh to the three. The Road is going to be shown in the US. i'm not surprised because i think it was really made for American audiences. there's nothing Filipino in it.

anyway back to Hugo. i didn't know what it was about except for the fact that Martin Scorsese directed it so i entered it with an open heart, ready to like it. but then while watching, i got the feeling that they tried avoiding Cinema Paradiso which was what the story should have been, a father-son story. but they veered away from it so the revelations came out flat in my opinion. they build up the Hugo-granddaughter plot, even investing so much in Borat's character that they forgot Ben Kingsley's character. naturally, why would i care if the boy start investigating about his past? i didn't care for it at all. i didn't care for any character, even that of Hugo. bring him to the orphanage please!

being so disappointed, i blamed erik for watching that instead of Unofficially Yours which at least i know i would enjoy because of JL. so we watched it last night.

at first i was kilig because of JL's ka-cute-an. he's like sushi hahaha! but then after an hour or so with nothing happening and his character not really progressing, i got bored. soon after, his cute antics didn't work for me anymore because the story was not going anywhere. i even started questioning why Angel would have feelings with this needy, puppy-eyed JL who's actually a wimp just like the guy in 500 Days. for such a strong woman, why would she love a guy like that?

i don't know the culture in newspaper offices but when i was watching it, i was thinking the Angel character fits more in the advertising world than in newspaper where most employees are conservative and academic. but of course, that world has been used a lot of times in (Star Cinema) movies already so they needed something new.

i didn't finish all movies i mentioned (except for The Road). if you liked any of the movies i mentioned, please tell me why. please...please...

---

on a positive note, i'm loving Sherlock! at least the first episode which runs for an hour an a half. first season only contains 3 episodes. it's funny, witty dialogues, entertaining with a lot of bromance between Sherlock and Watson :)

at least i have something to watch after Entourage. that's another TV series i recommend!

Poker life lessons

i've been playing online poker at Pokerstars.com. it's a program you download and then if you're from the Philippines you 'll have to get a virtual credit card from Entropay.com because local credit cards blocked online gambling for some reason (a good reason i think). i tried BDO and Citibank and they both cannot be used to deposit directly to Pokerstars.

anyway playing online reinforced in me some facts about life. who says you can't learn while playing on the net?

1. impatient people don't get anywhere. just because you have the best hand (AA) doesn't mean you'll win...

2. so choose your battle! sometimes, even if you think you have the best hand, you just have to let go and accept the fact that maybe the other guy's hand is better than yours. there will always be a bigger battle to fight.

*and while typing that, i just lost $3.50. K9 VS KQ. i went all in with two pairs but Q came at the river :(

3. which brings me to another lesson: in life you'll only need 50% talent and 50% luck. i think famous people are not just smart but they're also damn lucky.

there were times i had the worst cards but i still won over bigger hands. i also believe in lucky numbers for the day. like the other day, every time the number 6 appeared i always lost my hand. but today, even my 86 wins :D

4.  missed opportunities suck! but you just have to forget about it and move on.

5. there will always be assholes at the table who will bully you and scare you into submitting. but don't let it affect your game because if you do, you'll be the loser!

6. and lastly, you should always set a limit. up to how much are you only willing to lose? i once lost a total of $100 dollars at Worldwinner.com and then i decided to delete my account, realizing that was enough and i couldn't get rich playing there.

in love, life, work and friendships, there should be limits to what you can only take. when that limit is reached, you can opt to give it another chance and set another limit. but if you think it's going nowhere and you'll just lose again, you should always be ready to say goodbye and never come back.

i love poker!

Airbnb it is!

if you're travelling anywhere in the world, you should try to book an accommodation at Airbnb. i just discovered it recently and will use it for our trip to europe this april. we were even able to book an entire apartment for the 3 places we'll go to! and they are cheaper than staying in a hotel :D

our apartment in Barcelona, Spain

then we'll be going to San Sebastian where it's very hard to find accommodation
so we ended up booking through Agoda.com.

back to Airbnb for Provence!

our apartment in Provence

we have a pool of our own.
we searched a lot of accommodations before deciding on this.
this is the provence i imagined.

from there, we'll be heading to Paris!

i'll be posting about our experience using Airbnb after our trip.

i can't wait...i can't write...

starstruck

friend ko na si Kuya Dick! siya pa nag-add sa 'kin kasi hindi ko siya ma-add sa dami ng friend requests niya!

na-starstruck ako sa kanya talaga nung una ko siyang nakita kasi i'm a fan! i grew up watching his movies. ayoko ngang lumapit nun sa set kasi nahihiya ako. ang bait-bait niya sa Zombadings talaga. he helped the movie a lot and he was very supportive din.

wala akong picture with actors pala. as in. pero sana nagpa-picture ako with Roderick Paulate!

FB pages

i recently put up two pages: one is Momiji Crafts where i plan to sell my handmade products and which i recently opened for other crafters with products to sell; and Manila Online Ukay where people can sell their 2nd hand items.

i got the idea for MOU when i was trying to search online for old books to buy and couldn't find any online ukay store. there were some but all of them just sold their own products and is not open for other sellers.

so if you have old things you want to sell, go to Manila Online Ukay.
for handmade upcycled/recycled products, go to Momiji Crafts page :)
